Sheriff Alford is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the National Sheriff's Institute. Sheriff Alford holds a Master Peace Officer Certification.  He served twenty-seven years in the Texas Department of Public Safety as a State Trooper for 6 years, Criminal Intelligence Service for 10 years, Narcotics Service for 10 years and as a Special Texas Ranger.

He introduced the task force concept to Johnson County in 1989 with the development of the highly successful and still operational STOP Narcotics Task Force. He was elected for two years as Regional Representative for the Texas Narcotics Control Program which represents 26 counties in North Central Texas.  Sheriff Alford was the Texas Narcotics Control Program Officer of this year and Supervisor of the Year at the Johnson County Sheriff's Office Awards Banquet.

Within 52 days of taking office in 1997, Sheriff Alford presided over the re-certification of the jail at the Law Enforcement Center removing the threat of having to use out of county facilities for our prisoners. He has implemented, endorsed and initiated programs which provide control and rehabilitation of jail inmates and law enforcement programs throughout Johnson County .

Sheriff Alford has worked with the Commissioner's court to improve staff compensation and provide better services to the public. He has helped all  of the commissioners precincts develop and man prisoner work crews as well as a cemetery clean-up crew at the Corrections and Services complex.

A Community Services unit has been added and Neighborhood Watch groups went from 4 to 15. 

Internal operations of the Sheriff's department have been improved with Employee of the Month awards, an annual Employee Recognition Day, a uniform allowance and promotions within the department are now done through a Review Board rather than direct appointment.  All Sheriff's Office personnel must pass drug testing. The jail is being expanded to better service inmates at a lower cost. 

In 1996 Sheriff Alford made promises which he kept and with his re-election in 2000 and in 2005, he pledges to continue his efforts to offer good, conservative government and professional law enforcement for Johnson County . Sheriff  Alford and his wife Marty (Division Manager, Internal Security & Investigations  Branch - Security & Investigations Division) are active members of Sheppard's Valley Cowboy Church. They have five children and recently added their ninth grandchild.

Bob Alford is truly our "Sheriff Who Cares" as exhibited by his dedication to county boards and committees which are committed to improving our quality of life and improve law enforcement activities and services.

Sheriff Alford was un-opposed in the 2005 elections and re-elected to Sheriff of Johnson County.
