Chief Deputy Tom Craig has 39 years of Law Enforcement experience. His career is corrections began in October 1962 when he was on special assignment at Alcatraz prison just prior to its closing. Craig began as Recreation Director for the Federal bureau of Prisons, receiving 8 promotions in 12 years. During that time he worked in facilities in Dallas ,Denver, Portland, Seattle, Chicago, El Paso and Leavenworth. At Leavenworth, infamous Pecos, Texas crook, Billy Sol Estes, was his trusty clerk. Tom Craig was hired as Director of Detention in 1975 at Dallas County SO, managing daily operations or three facilities housing 2000 inmates. He consulted with private, state and county prisons and jail systems in Texas , New Mexico, and Oklahoma from 1977 - 1987. From 1987-1988, Chief Deputy Craig was jail administrator at Johnson County jail on Mill St.. In October 1988 he went to work for the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles in Ft. Worth, and was a Parole Officer until Feb 1989. In Feb 1989 Craig was warden at the Fillyaw Newton County Detention facility in Newton, TX where he served until 1993. From Sept. 1993 through Feb 1994, he was associate Warden of the state of New Mexico Corrections, Santa Fe, New Mexico and retired. He was a consultant from 1994-1996 and has been Jail Administrator for Johnson County Sheriff's office since 1997.
